What is Sodium Ion Battery
A sodium-ion battery, a new battery technology, by using sodium ions (Na⁺) as the energy carrier, which has a same working principle as a lithium-ion cell. However, it has an outstanding advantages in terms of the cost & availability of raw materials, safety, life cycling and a wider range of temperature application.
As end-users become more informed, they have set new expectations for battery safety, service life, and driving range. Lead-acid batteries are cheap, but they are environmentally unfriendly and lag behind LiFePO₄ and NCM 5-series/8-series cells in both cycle life and mileage. Lithium-ion technology, constrained by scarce resources and high material costs, has priced itself out of the price-sensitive segment.
Sodium-ion battery offers better intrinsic safety than LiFePO₄, costs less, and outperforms lead-acid in range and charge time, making it an ideal power source for micro-vehicles,residential energy-storage systems and utility-scaled battery energy storage system.
To meet this market need, we launched its “Sodium-ion battery R&D Center” in 2020, building the technical team around alumni of Hefei University of Technology.
We are currently using two main routes for making sodium-ion battery:
- A nickel–iron–manganese based system (heavy-oxygen chemistry)
- A phosphate–sodium ferrous sulfite route
We are moving into mass production for this sodium ion battery: annual production capacity is projected to reach 20 GWh by the end of 2026; and under our long-term roadmap, scale to 300 GWh by 2030.

Firsly, The necessity of using liquid cooling system for battery energy storage cabinet.
◦ Lithium batteries are sensitive to temperature, with a comfortable operating range of 25℃±10℃. When the temperature falls below 15℃, the electrolyte becomes viscous, making it difficult to discharge the battery and charge it. When the temperature rises above 35℃, it is prone to thermal failure. Therefore, liquid cooling systems are compulsory for lithium battery energy storage cabinets. As you know, sodium ion battery has a much wider temperature range. it is not necessary to use a liquid cooling system, thus it can save the space for liquid cooling system and its wiring system; and improve its conversion efficiency: As there is no need to consume the battery’s own power for liquid cooling system, the conversion efficiency has been increased from about 90% to around 95%; furthe to save your costs a lot overally : The liquid cooling system and its wiring system account for approximately 10% of the total cost.
On the contrary, Sodium batteries are insensitive to temperature, and can be charged and discharged normally without liquid cooling at around 0℃, maintaining a capacity of over 95%; at high temperatures of 35-50℃, they can discharge 98% of their capacity without using a liquid cooling. • Vehicle and battery condition: The sample vehicle has been in use for over two years, which is equipped with a 60-volt 70-ampere-hour sodium ion battery with a capacity of 4 kWh.
◦ Energy density: approximately 150 Wh/kg, which is about three times that of lead-acid batteries, and it occupies a small space.
◦ Price is approximately 0.1 USD per watt-hour, similar to the price of lithium iron battery.
◦ Lifespan and Degradation: After more than two years of use, there is essentially no degradation. With one charge and one discharge per day, it can be cycled over 3,000 times, boasting a lifespan of up to ten years.
