What is a Thermocouple Wire Type K
Thermocouple Wire Type K is one of most commonly used thermocouple wire, which is made of Ni/chromium wire and Ni/aluminum oxide conductor, Iron & constantan conductor or copper & constantan conductor and insulated by fiberglass, Teflon FEP, Telflon PFA, PVC, silicon rubber or polyimide/kapton.Braided by tinned copper braid or SSB as required. it has three main types.
Due to its wide temperature measurement range: K type thermocouple wires are suitable for a wide temperature range, with theoretical values between -200 ° C and+1350 ° C . This makes it very suitable for high-temperature applications.
High precision and stability: K type thermocouple wires have high measurement accuracy and stability, and can provide accurate and reliable temperature measurement results.
Corrosion resistance: K type thermocouple wires have good corrosion resistance to common corrosive media and are suitable for temperature measurement in many industrial applications.
Due to its wide temperature range and excellent performance, K type thermocouple wires are widely used in industries such as chemical, metallurgical, power generation, petroleum, and pharmaceutical plants etc.
Thermocouple Wire Type K by its Insulation & Sheath material
There are hundreds of types of thermocouple wire type K, varied from its insulation & sheath materials.

Custom Fabrication of Thermocouple Wire Type K, Referring to Different Standards
Custom thermocouple wire type K will be designed & tested by the following standards.
ASTM E230 & ANSI MC 96.1; IEC 60584; BS 1843; DIN 43722; JIS C1610-1995; NF C 42-324

How Does A Type K Thermocouple Wire Work?
The working principle of thermocouple wire type K is same as other types thermocouple wire, it is also based on the thermoelectric effect. When two different metals or its alloys are connected together to form a closed circuit, if two connection points are in different temperatures will generate a potential difference, known as thermoelectric potential. This thermoelectric potential directly proportional to the temperature difference, by measuring the magnitude of the thermoelectric potential, it can be determined the difference in temperature;
Meanwhile, due to the relatively low cost of nickel chromium and nickel silicon materials, K type
Thermocouple wire, was considered as low-cost metal thermocouple wire, having a high cost performance ratio and its testing capabilities of a wide temperature range. Based on these two factors, it was favored by most users in differnent applications.
A Guide To Thermocouple Wire Type K
A type K thermocouple wire is further divided into three models, due to its different conductors; they are KX, KCA & KCB, which also has a different color code, according to the requirement of differnet standards.
