Types of transformer protection

As a professional power transformer manufacturer in China, in last 30 years, our power transformer already widely used in solar power plants, in wind power plants, in hydropower plants, in some electrical substation and some coal power generation plants throughout the world. and the voltage level up to 500 kV.

In this post, we will share some common types of transformer protection;

it mainly include:

1. Differential protection: mainly to reflect faults in transformer windings, bushings, and outgoing lines.

2. Interphase overcurrent protection: According to operating conditions, composite voltage blocking and directional blocking can be introduced. According to the setting requirements, it can reflect the short-circuit fault between the internal and external phases of the transformer.

3. Impedance protection: When the interphase overcurrent protection does not meet the sensitivity requirements, impedance protection can be used.

4. Zero sequence protection and zero sequence current direction protection: Based on the set direction, it can reflect the internal and external grounding short circuit faults of the transformer.

5. Overload protection: Reflects the overload status of the transformer, acting on a signal or tripping.

6. Overexcitation protection: Reflects the overexcitation state caused by overvoltage or frequency reduction, acting on a signal or tripping.

The above-mentioned are some common types of transformer protection that can effectively ensure the normal operation of transformers and prevent or reduce damage to electrical equipment and power systems caused by faults.
